Oriel y Dyfodol, y Pierhead
An exhibition by the Wales Society of Botanical Illustrators

As part of Botanical Art Worldwide (BAWW) Day on 18 May 2025, the Wales Society of Botanical Illustrators (WSBI) is proud to present this exhibition celebrating our local heritage plants.
This exhibition aims to promote botanical art and illustration, and encourage a greater interest in botany.
By celebrating the biodiversity of crops that have been associated with the human species for thousands of years, we aim to highlight the amazing variety of heritage plants used for food, medicine, textiles, and dyes.
The emphasis on food species underscores how important heritage plants are for our health and environment.
Currently, many heritage species and varieties are grown only in small quantities by specialist growers. Of course, there are also many wild plant species that are used for food and there has been an increase in foraging in recent years.
This exhibition is one of four being held in the UK, with the others in Birmingham; the Eden Project, Cornwall; and Kew Gardens, London.
The international and UK exhibitions will be available online and displayed on screens at the Wales exhibition.

Fel rhan o Ddiwrnod Celfyddyd Fotanegol Fyd-eang (BAWW) ar 18 Mai 2025, mae Cymdeithas Darlunwyr Botanegol Cymru (WSBI) yn falch o gyflwyno’r arddangosfa hon sy’n dathlu ein planhigion treftadaeth lleol.
Nod yr arddangosfa yw hyrwyddo celf a darlunio botanegol, ac annog mwy o ddiddordeb mewn botaneg.
Drwy ddathlu bioamrywiaeth cnydau sydd wedi bod yn gysylltiedig â’r rhywogaeth ddynol ers miloedd o flynyddoedd, ein nod yw tynnu sylw at yr amrywiaeth anhygoel o blanhigion treftadaeth a ddefnyddir ar gyfer bwyd, meddygaeth, tecstilau a lliwiau.
Mae’r pwyslais ar rywogaethau bwyd yn ategu pa mor bwysig yw planhigion treftadaeth i’n hiechyd a’n hamgylchedd.
Ar hyn o bryd, mae llawer o amrywiaethau a rhywogaethau treftadaeth ond yn cael eu tyfu mewn niferoedd bach gan dyfwyr arbenigol. Wrth gwrs, mae hefyd lawer o rywogaethau o blanhigion gwyllt sy’n cael eu defnyddio ar gyfer bwyd ac mae chwilota wedi dod yn fwy poblogaidd yn y blynyddoedd diwethaf.
Mae’r arddangosfa hon yn un o bedair sy’n cael eu cynnal yn y DU, gyda’r lleill yn Birmingham; yr Eden Project, Cernyw; a Kew Gardens, Llundain.
Bydd yr arddangosfeydd rhyngwladol a’r DU ar gael ar-lein ac yn cael eu harddangos ar sgriniau yn arddangosfa Cymru.
