An exhibition by The Water Poets and Carmarthen School of Art
Sponsored by Vaughan Gething MS
‘Make it Right’ is a poignant collaboration between The Water Poets and Carmarthen School of Art, connecting over 1,000 young creatives from Carmarthenshire and Alabama through art and music.
The project draws inspiration from John Petts’ stained glass window, created in response to the 1963 bombing of the 16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama, which killed four young Black girls.
During Summer 2023, schools across Carmarthenshire were visited to tell this story, inviting pupils to respond through their own artwork. The Water Poets composed an original musical score, helping to deepen the emotional impact of the project.
Using the pupils’ work, Domingos Studios developed a moving digital animation, now a key focus of the exhibition. Alongside it sits a beautifully embroidered blanket, stitched by Carmarthen School of Art staff and students, one of which has been gifted to the Birmingham Civil Rights Museum.
The exhibition also showcases independent pieces by college students, reflecting on themes of justice, remembrance, and cross-cultural solidarity.
At its heart, Make it Right stands as a powerful expression of international empathy, proudly supporting the Welsh Government’s Anti-Racist Wales Action Plan and demonstrating Wales’ role in amplifying voices of peace and unity across borders.

Mae ‘Gwneud pethau’n Iawn’ yn gydweithrediad teimladwy rhwng The Water Poets ac Ysgol Gelf Caerfyrddin, sy’n cysylltu dros 1,000 o bobl ifanc greadigol o Sir Gaerfyrddin ac Alabama drwy gelf a cherddoriaeth.
Mae’r prosiect wedi’i ysbrydoli gan ffenestr wydr lliw John Petts, a grëwyd mewn ymateb i fomio Eglwys Bedyddwyr 16th Street yn Birmingham, Alabama ym 1963, pan laddwyd pedair merch ifanc ddu.
Yn ystod yr haf 2023, ymwelwyd ag ysgolion ledled Sir Gaerfyrddin i adrodd y stori hon, gan wahodd disgyblion i ymateb drwy eu gwaith celf eu hunain. Cyfansoddodd y Beirdd Dŵr sgôr gerddorol wreiddiol, gan gynorthwyo i ddyfnhau effaith emosiynol y prosiect.
Gan ddefnyddio gwaith y disgyblion, datblygodd Domingos Studios fath o lun symudol digidol, sydd bellach yn ffocws allweddol i’r arddangosfa. Ochr yn ochr ag ef mae blanced wedi’i brodio’n hyfryd, wedi’i gwnïo gan staff a myfyrwyr Ysgol Gelf Caerfyrddin, ac mae wedi’i rhoi yn rhodd i Amgueddfa Hawliau Sifil Birmingham.
Mae’r arddangosfa hefyd yn dangos darnau annibynnol gan fyfyrwyr o’r coleg, sy’n myfyrio ar y themâu cyfiawnder, cofio, ac undod trawsddiwylliannol.
Wrth ei wraidd, mae Gwneud Pethau’n Iawn yn fynegiant pwerus o empathi rhyngwladol, yn cefnogi Cynllun Gweithredu Gwrth-Hiliol Cymru Llywodraeth Cymru yn falch, gan ddangos rôl Cymru wrth hybu lleisiau heddwch ac undod ar draws ffiniau.
