Owain Glyndŵr (c.1354 – c.1415) was a Welsh leader and soldier who became the last native Prince of Wales. From 1400 – c.1415, Glyndŵr led a rebellion against English rule in Wales. In 1404, he established the first Welsh Parliament in Machynlleth.
To coincide with Owain Glyndŵr Day, artist Dan Llywelyn Hall has created a series of portraits depicting key figures from Owain’s court. The artist used the limited references available to visualize each character.
“Throughout Owain Glyndŵr’s life he moved between all ranks of society, including both Welsh and English nobility. Having served for the English crown, he was seen as an important link between the two nations”.
“When Owain’s revolt began he relied on his longstanding alliances on both sides of the border. In the following years of the campaign, key figures contributed to securing Owain’s legacy. This included financial and military support, as well as the chroniclers of the time, who provided us with valuable insights into Owain’s character”.

Owain Glyndŵr day is held annually in Wales on 16 September.

Roedd Owain Glyndŵr (c.1354 – c.1415) yn arweinydd ac yn filwr o Gymru a wasnaethodd fel Tywysog brodorol olaf Cymru. Rhwng 1400 a c.1415, arweiniodd Glyndŵr wrthryfel yn erbyn y Saeson a oedd yn rheoli yng Nghymru. Yn 1404, sefydlodd Senedd gyntaf Cymru ym Machynlleth.
I gyd-fynd â Diwrnod Owain Glyndŵr, mae’r artist Dan Llywelyn Hall wedi creu cyfres o ddarluniau sy’n portreadu ffigyrau allweddol yn llys Owain. O ran delweddu pob cymeriad, defnyddiodd yr artist y nifer cyfyngedig o gyfeiriadau a wnaed yn eu cylch.
“Drwy gydol ei fywyd, symudodd Owain Glyndŵr rhwng pob haen o’r gymdeithas, gan gynnwys uchelwyr Cymreig a Seisnig. Ar ôl iddo wasanaethu Coron Lloegr, roedd yn cael ei weld fel cyswllt pwysig rhwng y ddwy wlad.
“Pan ddechreuodd gwrthryfel Owain, roedd yn dibynnu ar ei gynghreiriau hirsefydlog ar ddwy ochr y ffin. Ym mlynyddoedd dilynol yr ymgyrch, cyfrannodd ffigurau allweddol at sicrhau etifeddiaeth Owain. Roedd y cyfraniad hwn yn cynnwys cefnogaeth ariannol a milwrol, yn ogystal ag ymdrechion y rhai a gofnododd y cyfnod, a roddodd fewnwelediadau gwerthfawr i ni o ran cymeriad Owain”.
