STONE – exhibition of carving

An exhibition celebrating the extraordinary craftsmanship in contemporary stone sculpture in the UK.
Exhibition curator and sculptor Paul Mitchell launches STONE – The Carved Form at the Makers Guild Wales gallery this May. Mitchell has invited artists that demonstrate their mastery of stone carving by hand, whether in relief or in the three-dimensional form.

“I was very pleased to be invited to curate this show of stone sculpture. I have chosen artists who work in a variety of different stones, including granite, slate, limestone, marble, alabaster – in both figurative and abstract outcomes. The inherent qualities of the stone; its translucency, reflection, absorption of light, uncovered through the mastery of carving and finish.”

Exhibiting artists in STONE are:

Jude Tucker

Tom Clark

David England

Paul Mitchell

Meic Watts

STONE – The Carved Form brings to audiences a rare opportunity to see such a substantial body of hand carved stone work under one roof, to have the opportunity to buy original one-off sculpture and relief works for the home and garden and to learn about materials and carving approaches.
