Crefft Yn Y Bae
Artists in Dialogue is a culmination of many months of creative conversations, studio visits and collaborations between twelve artists living and working in Wales. It is the second partnership between the Makers Guild Wales and Celebration of Welsh Contemporary Painting (CoWCP) – the latter being a voluntary group representing galleries across Wales, with the aim of promoting and celebrating the vibrancy and talent of contemporary painting.
Six craft makers and six painters were invited to begin a dialogue in their pairs, selected initially by a connection that the curators felt already existed between maker and painter – a shared passion for place, narrative or material. The majority had never met before but soon developed positive relationships, meeting ‘virtually’, at the gallery or visiting one another’s studios.
The work in Artists in Dialogue reveals the strong, individual identities of each artist but also the visual connections with their partner in their creative collaborations. Their statements give further insight into how they found mutual passions for particular places in Wales, Welsh history and culture, literature, language, sense of place and identity.
Mae ‘Artistiaid mewn Deialog’ yn benllanw misoedd lawer o sgyrsiau creadigol, ymweliadau stiwdio a chydweithio rhwng deuddeg artist sy’n byw ac yn gweithio yng Nghymru. Dyma’r ail bartneriaeth rhwng Urdd Gwneuthurwyr Cymru a Dathlu Peintio Cyfoes Cymreig (CoWCP) – sef grŵp gwirfoddol sy’n cynrychioli orielau ledled Cymru, gyda’r nod o hyrwyddo a dathlu bywiogrwydd a thalent paentio cyfoes. Gwahoddwyd chwe crefftwr a chwe pheintiwr i ddechrau deialog yn eu parau, a ddewiswyd i ddechrau gan gysylltiad y teimlai’r curaduron a oedd eisoes yn bodoli rhwng y gwneuthurwr a’r peintiwr – brwdfrydedd a rennir am le, naratif neu ddeunydd. Nid oedd y mwyafrif erioed wedi cyfarfod o’r blaen ond buan iawn y datblygodd berthnasau cadarnhaol, gan gyfarfod arlein, yn yr oriel neu ymweld â stiwdios ei gilydd. Mae’r gwaith ‘Artistiaid mewn Deialog’ yn datgelu hunaniaeth gref, unigol pob artist ond hefyd y cysylltiadau gweledol â’u partner yn eu cydweithrediadau creadigol. Mae eu datganiadau yn rhoi mewnwelediad pellach i sut y daethant o hyd i angerdd cilyddol dros leoedd penodol yng Nghymru, hanes a diwylliant Cymru, llenyddiaeth, iaith, ymdeimlad o le a hunaniaeth.
